After some trial runs, we hit the road with our near new EMU Camper Trailer. We headed down to Jindabyne to catchup with family for the XMAS break, heading down via the New England Hwy, taking in Stanthorpe and Tamworth, then a few days at Dubbo and the Western Planes zoo. After that it was Parkes for the radio telescope (pick the reformed Radio Physicist) and a nice visit to the Capital inc. the Mint!. The way back was via Sydney to see some relatives there, but not before a night in the Southern Highlands. Entering Sydney we managed to navigate the tolls, a few people trying to change lanes between the trailer and our 4WD before making it to our destination by way of the harbour bridge. On the way home we took in Myall lakes and Red rock all in time to see Nan off to NZ.
Along the way we settled into a driving and camping rhythm that wasn’t too hard on Mr. 4 and 6.
The camper trailer’s big advantage for this kind of trip, no more double handling on the sleeping gear and kitchen setup and no more squeezing camping gear into bags they could never possibly fit back into.
Looks like we have a new tradition too – putting stickers on the back…maybe with practice they’ll even end up a little straighter.?
We were pleased that our trailer only added 2L/100km to our fuel economy, Santy overtook with ease and , most of the time we didn’t even know it was there. FWIW its running 15” road tyres – rather than tough 4WD chunks.
